My KANE400 has rechargeable batteries but the charger does not seem to work. Why?

My KANE400 has rechargeable batteries but the charger does not seem to work. Why?

The KANE400 does not have the facility to charge rechargeable batteries. The adaptor supplied is only a power supply for the unit, not a charger.
